Committees
Outreach – Outreach is our main connection to the public. They are accountable for ongoing membership campaigns. You can see them at functions promoting or raising peoples awareness of the land trust’s purpose and ensuring that people understand the benefits of having a land trust group in their town to help protect the land in Clinton for current and future generations. They participated in the Town Hall Open House, the Friends of Hammonassett at the gathering this fall, and ensure the student grant programs are both known and administered to the direction of the sponsors of those scholarships.
Land Acquisition – The Land Acquisition Committee is responsible for evaluating potential properties to pursue in the interest of the town of Clinton. They often make recommendations regarding land that will be donated to the town from activities such as new building complexes, land donations, land purchases the land trust may initiate or that may arise as potential purchases the Land Trust may make directly from land owners. They also pursue funding from the state, federal or other alternatives that would help ease the financial burden of land purchases they recommend for purchase.
Land Management - Responsible for assisting in the upkeep of properties managed by the Land Trust, working with the Land Acquisition committee to follow-up on any land recommendations made to inspect properties, etc. on a fundamental level. Specifically we look for things like immediate or longer term maintenance or clean-up of the property, the type of community value it may add such as hiking trails, value to people as well as preservation for habitat for birds, animals, fish, etc. The Land Management committee is responsible for the Trails Day events where there is typically a hike on one of Clinton’s hiking trails and some clean-up work performed. They also have been trying to upkeep various properties and maintain several Osprey platforms located in Clinton. | |
