For the third season in a row, instructor Dana Skidmore, conducted the Ecology Camp sponsored by the Clinton Park & Recreation Department and the Clinton Land Conservation Trust. Two one-week sessions are held for children ages 7 through 11.
For three days of camp, students head to the Town Beach and explore the mud flats, salt marshes and sandy beaches. They catch calico crabs, Japanese shore crabs, shrimp and flounder. After the special characteristics of each species are explained, a discussion follows about how the animals adapt to their environment and how they deal with human impact. The kids then release them back into the wild. The second half of the week is spent in the woods.
Mrs. Skidmore serves on the Board of Directors of CLCT; she teaches 4th grade at the Abraham Pierson School in Clinton, has an undergraduate degree in Marine Biology and a Master's Degree in Environmental Education |
